What we stand for

We stand for social advancement, economic justice and peace  for everyone.

We support the common good and its further advancement.

We support science.

We are forward thinking.

We support and promote the proposition that the historical social and economic teachings of the Catholic Church and current trends of progressive political thought are more similar than not.

At the same time, Catholic Social Teaching involves many intertwined issues. No one issue should be allowed to dominate all the others. Pope Francis recently observed that all matters of social justice are "equally sacred", one not having a higher priority and the others.

We believe that there are political forces that use certain issues, including reproductive rights, LGBT rights, the sexual abuse crisis and women’s issues, to drive a wedge between Catholics  and between Catholics and progressives, while ignoring important issues of social and economic justice that should unite us.

Likewise, these same forces have been successful in using these same issues to turn younger Catholics and progressive Millenials away from working within the framework of the Church to promote and adopt meaningful social and economic change.

We support a Catholic Church which is open and inclusive, compassionate and caring, forward thinking and which robustly promotes its rich body of Catholic Social teaching in its entirety.

Therefore, our mission is two-fold: 1) to draw the attention of all people to the similarities that unite Catholics and progressives and 2) to help younger and progressive Catholics understand that social and economic justice is beneficial to all and worth promoting.
