Enacted by the U.N. General Assembly in 1948 and ratified by scores of nations, including the United States, the Declaration of Human Rights stands as one of the finest examples of defining what human rights are and how they are to be promoted.
It is important to note that the terms of the Declaration are not self enforcing, but merely aspirational. Nonetheless, they represent a great step forward in defining world affairs.
Without question, the Catholic Church has, since 1948, been a strong advocate of the Declaration and its provisions. Many of these provisions are consistent with CST.
